Useful information: The library offers photos of different ticks species. When selecting a photo for your communication material, please consider that different ticks can carry different diseases:
- Tick-borne encephalitis: It is transmitted by the bite of several species of infected ticks, including Ixodes ricinus and Ixodes persulcatus, or through the non-pasteurized milk of infected cows, goats, etc.
- Tick-borne relapsing fever: It is transmitted by the bite of Ornithodoros ticks.
- Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever: Tick species that have been identified as infected with this virus include Hyalomma marginatum, Dermacentor reticulatus, and Rhipicephalus bursa.
- Lyme borreliosis: Hard-bodied ticks of the genus Ixodes are the main vectors of Lyme disease.

This toolkit aims to assist EU Member States in devising communication activities to raise awareness about the health threats related to ticks, as well as promoting preventive measures to reduce the risk of developing tick-borne diseases. The toolkit targets children, travellers, the general public, and health practitioners.
