In 2021, 27 EU/EEA countries reported a total of 46 728 confirmed cases of gonorrhoea. The overall crude notification rate was 13.7 cases per 100 000 population. Rates of reported gonorrhoea infection vary considerably across the EU/EEA. Men who have sex with men (MSM) accounted for more than half of the reported cases (55%) in 2021. The overall notification rate increased between 2012 and 2019, decreased in 2020 (the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic), then increased in 2021 to levels higher than in 2019.
