Work Programme 2022 of the EU Initiative on Health Security

News

In 2020, the European Commission Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) and ECDC reached an agreement to strengthen the regional workforce for the prevention and control of challenges posed by communicable diseases in the European Union enlargement and the European Neighbourhood Policy partner countries. Following this agreement, ECDC through the EU Initiative on Health Security has been working with its partners to achieve this goal.

EU Initiative on Health Security - work programme 2022 cover

In 2022, ECDC will implement a comprehensive programme stemming from the needs identified through continuous dialogue with partner countries. Planned activities include:

  • A workshop on Emergency Operation Centres and protocols for public health emergencies.
  • Training courses on Epidemic Intelligence and Rapid Risk Assessment.
  • A workshop exploring aspects of recovery planning.
  • A Regional workshop on entry/exit screening: science and practice.
  • Community preparedness case studies.
  • A workshop on Risk Communication.

In addition to the currently ongoing Cohort 4 of the Mediterranean and Black Sea Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (MediPIET), Cohort 5 will start in September 2022. The two courses will then run in parallel to each other, giving an opportunity for more fellows from partner countries to gain the highest standards of competency in intervention epidemiology.

In 2022, ECDC will also facilitate the setting up of the MediPIET Alumni Network (MediAN) and will consolidate the results of the regional training needs assessment and its impact on the core competencies and the curriculum of the training programme. Further investments will be made into developing online based learning solutions for MediPIET.

To strengthen knowledge sharing and the overall integration of partner countries into ECDC systems, observers will be invited to take part in the relevant ECDC networks as well as participate in ECDC thematic events based on country specific interests.

Instructor-led virtual, face-to-face and hybrid MediPIET modules and other courses delivered under the EU Initiative on Health Security have been integrated into the course-catalogue of the ECDC Virtual Academy (EVA), a cross-cutting education platform that includes video lectures, interactive quizzes, expert and peer graded assessments, aimed to create communities of practice between fellow learners and trainers. The catalogue is also available in PDF.
